Summer Fair 2024!

Before the fair started, we had to obviously set-up and what conditions we had yesterday morning to do so, with the pouring rain but plenty of hardy volunteers stepped up and made sure all was ready for the streams of visitors.

The weather brightened up just in time, and the sun was soon lighting up the school grounds. The fair was opened by our Golden Ticket winner, Ada, who sold 240 raffle tickets (wow!) with the presence of our Headline Sponsor, Rowlands Castle Preschool and their manager Jade Thomas and PCSO Almy Toogood from the Butser Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Soon after, we were treated to some live music from the children via their Rocksteady bands. We’ve got some great talent at the school and extremely well taught, led & motivated by Fraser. It was lovely to have Fraser stay for the whole fair treating us to some brilliant Rocksteady workshops.

The tireless BBQ team served up tasty burgers & hotdogs from Treagust butchers, always popular with the fair-goers as was the candy floss and refreshment stall.

At midday, we were treated by live performances from Elsa and Snow White, and big queues soon formed to have their photo with them. Thanks to Little Hopes & Dreams for sending them along to join us at the fair.

Back by popular demand, we had Soak the Teachers (Miss Neale/Mr O’Beirne) plus new to this year, Soak the Compere (Jim Cochrane) & local councillor/Youth Club manager Charlene Maines! They were all good sports and resulted in much hilarity and laughter from onlookers and particularly from those dishing the punishment!

The Butser Neighbourhood Policing Team attended and chatted to little (& older) visitors and bought a police car to explore and hats to try on.

Due to the weather, we were disappointingly not able to put on a brand new activity for this year, Go-Karts, which would have been such a hit, hopefully next time! We did however manage to squeeze some inflatables into the school hall for some bouncy fun, so big thanks to Funtime Castles & Soft Play for their flexibility.

There were so many others stalls & activities that bought fun & giggles, from Silly Skittles, Bottle Tombola & Giant Bubbles to Adopt-A-Bear, Golden Eggs & Silly Sausages and much, much more.

Big thank you to our sponsors Rowlands Castle Preschool, Henry Adams Estate Agents and A Sense of Craft for your support, both financially and on the day, plus all the businesses that donated prizes for our Mega Raffle.

A massive thank you to all the volunteers, from both the school & village community. The success of the fair really does rely on people coming together and helping set-up & run the various stalls & activities.

To all the visitors, we very much hope you had a fun day out, with memories made. Thank you for supporting your village school, and spending your hard earned cash.

To all of the parents/carers, thank you once again for your support with various donations & pleas over the past few weeks.

The biggest thank you must go to the PTA committee for yet again coming up trumps and putting on another successful fair. As with lots of village events, so much unseen work goes on behind doors but certainly not unnoticed!

As has been the over the years, the parents on the PTA are such a fun group to put these events on with. There are 5 long standing committee members leaving in the summer due to their children going onto secondary school (collectively over 35 years PTA experience together) so huge thanks to them for their effort & good times.

This will obviously leave a sizeable hole so if you fancy getting involved next year & want to join a fabulous bunch, do get in touch, the existing members would very much appreciate it! Email events@stjohnspta.com

Oh, and nearly forgot, the grand total rasied!! Our treasurer has worked very hard following the fair, counting up all the pennies and consolidating expenses and we're excited to announce that the the grand total is an amazing....

£5,424.06

This is just shy of last year's total (£5,556) but considering the awful weather in the morning which probably put some people off and the cause of cancelling what would have been a profitable stall, a still massively impressive amount for a village school fair!!!

Thanks again to each & every one of you that contributed to making this happen.

See you next year!
